Summary

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) has been modified by epichlorohydrin in a water solution In the presence of sul­furic acid. Thus chlrohydroxypropylethers of PVA have been obtained which in turn form glycidyl ethers of PVA by the dehydrochlorination reaction in the presence of so­dium hydroxide. The influence of reaction conditions on the formation of both types of PVA ethers have been stu­died. The optimal conditions for the maximum substitution degree in the products have been found.
