Summary

Natural and butadiene-acrylonitrile rubbers have been modified by grafting of polystyrene (PS) and poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA), by mixing of rubber with PS and PBA or by in situ crosslinking of not crosslinked polychloroprene and neoprene elastomers introduced beforehand into the rubber matrix. Modifying polymers were located mainly in the surface layer of rubber. As a result of modification, the resistance to ozone and to hydrochloric acid has been increased without deterioration of mechanical properties.
