Morphology of quartz moulding sands bonded with modified phenol-formaldehyde binders in the presence of an acidic catalyst
The scanning electron microscopy has been used in the studies on topography of cold-cured moulding sands bonded with modified phenol-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde-epoxide and epoxide binders. The results have been correlated with the mechanical strength of the moulding sands. The effect of the addition of furfuryl alcohol, dioxolane, elastomer, epoxide resin and curing catalysts on the adhesion of binders to sand has been investigated.
