The reaction of phsnylgiycinyl ether (EPG) with aliphatic and aromatic primary and secondary amines has been investigated. It has been found that the degree of conversion of epoxide groups with all the amines studied can be equally well determined either from the changes in absorbancy of epoxide groups in the band at 4530 cm-1 or from the changes in absorbancy of NH groups at about 6500 cm-1. These results have been confirmed and supplemented studies on the reaction of EPG with primary and secondary alcohols. The reactivity of amine and alcoholic groups with 4 EPG has also been determined.
