Notch effect on the instantaneous and fatigue strength of Itamid 25

The results of studies on the effect of mechanically cut notches on the instantaneous and fatigue strength of Itamid 25, including studies at elevated temperatures of 323 К (50°C) and 353 К (80°C) have been given. The fatigue tests have been carried out under axial stretching in sinusoidal cycles of a constant value of f = 7.5 Hz and coefficient of asymmetry R = 0.5 with a hydraulic pulsator. A significant decrease of both the instantaneous and fatigue strength after notching has been observed. A physical interpretation of the behaviour of material has been presented and results of statistical treatment of the fatigue strength test results discussed. An analysis of the fatigue decohesion process has been carried out basing on the microfractographic studies with a scanning microscope.
