Olefin polymerization catalysts on the basis of [MgCI2(THF)2] and alkoxy derivatives of titanium

Alkoxy derivatives of titanium supported on [MgCl2(THF)2] and activated with organoaluminium compounds polymerize ethylene under low pressure in high yields. In propylene polymerization, however, they show low activity and low isospecificity. Attempts were made to elucidate the correlation between the results of polymerization and the inductive effects of alkoxy ligands in titanium components of catalysts. The effect of an OR-ligand nature on the process of ethylene polymerization was studied by means of a gradual substitution of OR ligands by chlorine atoms in the titanium component of the catalyst. It was found that an increasing positive chaige on titanium atom (in the active center) favoured the catalytic activity of the catalysts. Lowering of oiganoaluminium compound acidity also enhanced activity of the catalytic system.
