Optimization of single-screw plasticating systems

Summary

The stationary process of extrusion of the Polish-made low density polyethylene by means of a single screw extruder (D = 45 mm, L/D = 20) has been investigated. On the basis of experimental results the forms of regression equations describing the dependencies between the factors under investigation (width of slits and grooves, temperature of the first and the second cylinder zone, rotational speed of screw, resistance in extruder head) and the effective factors (arithmetic mean and distribution of temperature of plasticated material at the head inlet, extrusion efficiency, ratio of the screw drive rating to the extrusion efficiency have been derived. An analytical optimization of the investigated factors has been carried out by the method of systematic search. Extrusion efficiency has been selected as the criterion function.
