Polarographic studies and determination of butyl acrylates in solutions of Hg2+ salts

It has been established that reactions of mercury (II) nitrate with n-butyl, i-butyl and t -butyl acrylates in 80% СН3ОН are of the second order. The addition compounds being the products of these reactions are reduced upon KER in one, two or three stages. The Investigation of the effect of some selected parameters on the polarographic behaviour of the addition compounds contributed to the development of a quantitative method for the determination of the individual butyl acrylates in the form of their Hg2+ derivatives. In 80% СН3ОН and in the presence of 0.2 mole per litre solution of HNO3 as an electrolyte they reveal one wave of reduction, its height being directly proportional to the concentration of acrylates in the range of concentrations from 0.8X10-5 to 8X10-4 moles per litre.
