Summary

This article is a review based on the publications mainly from the years 2000-2001. A brief characteristic of nanotechnology field has been done and basic terms have been defined. Recent dynamic development of scientific investigations on polymer nanocomposites has been presented. Chosen methods of such nanocomposites' assessment were described. A review of the fillers used for nanocomposites preparation, different than layered silicates (silica, metais and metal compounds, some other compounds) as well as layered silicate (montmorillonite) has been done. The structures possible to be obtained were presented. Methods of preparation and functional properties od nanocomposites based either on the layered silicates or thermosetting polymers (epoxy resins, unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethanes, polysiloxanes) have been discussed.
