Polymerization of oxazolines initiated with chloroformates

The mechanism of initiation of cationic polymerization of oxazolincs was discussed with particular stress to the application of alkyl chloroformatcs as initiators. On the example of 2-methyloxazoline and 2-phenyloxazoline polymerization initiated with methyl chloroformate it was proved that the rate constans of polymerization increase in the presence of potassium iodide or a silver salt of trifluoromethanesulphonic acid (AgOTf). Star-like polymers with Tyree branches were obtained in polymerization of the above monomers initiated with chloroformate of 2,2-bis-hydroxymethylbutanol-l in the presence of KI Or AgOTf. The method of preparation of block copolymers of oxazolincs and ethylene oxide by initiation with macro-initiators (a,w-dichloroformates of polyoxyethylene glycols) also in the presence of KI or AgOTf was described, too.
