Polymerization of propylene in the presence of a modified generation II catalytic system

Summary

A catalytic system comprising the so-called "microspherical" titanium catalyst and an thylfluoroaluminium compound having the formula Et1.5AlCl0.75F0.75 modified by preliminary treatment with propylene (prepolymerization), was studied in polymerization of propylene. The effect ofthe modification on catalyst activity and stereospecificity, kinetics of propylene polymerization, and on physical and mechanical parameters of the polypropylene product was studied. The prepolymerization step was found to increase the yield and stereospecificity of the propylene polymerization reaction and to affectits kinetic parameters. The rheological properties, grain size distribution, polydispersity, bulk density and mechanical strength of the polypropylene product were thereby improved.
