Polyolefin-based polymer–polymer compositions formed in situ.

The polyethylene–poly(vinyl chloride) system (in English)

Polimery 1998, No 3, 161

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1998.161

Summary

Methods of preparing polymer–polymer compositions in situ are reviewed. Polyolefin is one of the ingredients of such compositions. The structure of composite materials based on PE/PVC is discussed. The properties of polymer blends and compositions formed in situ are compared. The important role played by the interlayer formed in these polymer compositions in situ is discussed; their structure and compositions are shown to determine the basic properties of the material. The compositions obtained by mixing followed by polymerization include an interlayer of an interpenetrating network. The structure of compositions formed in situ is responsible for their unconventional properties and applications.

Keywords: polyethylene–poly(vinyl chloride) compositions formed in situ, structure, properties
