The effect of addition of trichloroethylene (up to 4 mass-% per weight of vinyl chloride monomer) on polymerization of VCM was investigated. A considerable increase in the melt flow index of polymer (MH about 50 g/10 min) was obtained, at the price of a reduced polymer yield. Addition of thermal stabilizers prevented any considerable decrease in thermal stability of PVC. Laboratory-scale results (in a 2-1. autoclave) were easily transferred to the 1 cu.m.-scale.
