Preparation of a new catalytic system for polymerization of propylene.

Summary

Conditions were established on how to prepare an active titanium catalyst based on a bimetallic complex, [MgCl2(C2H5OH)2/(C2H5)2AlCl], involving ethanol as the internal Lewis base, to polymerize propylene. Tire catalyst was modified in a prepolymerization run to prepare a precatalyst. The precatalyst was complexed with triethylaluminum used in a high excess and then modified with an external Lewis base, cyclohexylmethyldimethoxysilane, to produce an active and stereoregular catalytic system for polymerization of propylene.
