Summary

Alkaline hydrolysis of waste polyacrylonitrile fibres Anilana gives an alkaline solution of a copolymer comprising carboxylic and amide groups (HPAN). Preliminary experiments on the manufacture of fibres from blends of viscose and HPAN have been carried out. These fibres are characterized by higher developed surface area, higher porosity and higher absorption capacity than the classical cellulose fibres.
