Properties of polycarbonate-polypropylene blends

Polimery 1980, No 3, 110

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1980.110

In the studies on modifying polycarbonate resins with other polymers, blends of polycarbonate with polypropylene have been prepared by mixing granulated polymers directly in the extruder. The polypropylene content has been changed in the whole range of compositions. The following properties of the blends have been tested: melt flow index, tensile and bending properties, notched impact strength. Vicat softening point, and oxygen index. It has been found that polycarbonate resins can be modified by blending them with polypropylene and blends containing up to about 10 per cent by weight of polypropylene exhibit a set of properties characteristic of a material which can find specific applications instead of polycarbonate.
