Protection of low-density polyethylene againts the destruction by UV – irradation

Summary

The effect of the type and amount of stabilizer on the effectiveness of its protective action in the process of an accelerated ageing of low density polyethylene film in the Xeno - test-450 apparatus has been investigated. As a criterion for the evaluation of stabilizer's effectiveness derved the value of the coefficient of change in relative elongation at break (K) versus time of ageing.The following stabilizers: absorber UV Chimassorb 81 and Chimassorb 944 radicals acceptor when used together showed an synergetic effect. An effective protection of low density polyethylene film is secured by a system composed of 0.4% by weight of Chimassorb 944 and 0.2% by weight of Chimassorb 81. It gave К = 99.6 % after 3000 h exposure as compared with К = 50 % after 500 h exposure for non-stabilized low den sitypolyethylene film.
