Summary

The Harrington's multiparameter method of quality assessment (the generalized output function) has been applied for the optimization of moulding process for polystyrene (PS) parts. The following moulding variables were taken: the mould temperature of 35 or 50°C, the moulded polymer temperature from 170 to 250°C, and the moulding pressure in the range of 44—80 MPa. The tensile strength, the longitudinal elasticity coefficient, and the difference of average birefringence along the part axis were chosen as the output parameters .Moulding conditions for appropriate PS parts, i.e. for PS parts of the general output function D > 0.63, have been found.
