Quantitative analysis of accelerators by TLC and UV-spectrophotometry

Summary

The methods of extraction and TCL have been applied to the isolation of accelerators from rubber. The isolated accelerators have been determined quantitatively by UV-spectrophotometry. It has been found that due to transformations taking part during compounding and vulcatization the content of accelerators in vulcanized rubbers in the original form is only 17—48% of their orignal content; simultaneously considerable amounts of new compounds (for example mercaptobenzothiazole and zinc carbamate) are formed. The use of compositions of accelerators increases the degree of their transformation during compounding and vulcanization in comparison with the use of individual accelerators.
