A literature review concerning the dependence of copolymer composition on the composition of monomer mixture was presented for various processes of binary copolymerization. Several models of copolymerization, namely model of ultimate mer, model of penultimate mer and model of next to penultimate mer, were characterized by means of mathematical formulas and relationships. The effect of comonomer concentrations in the copolymerization processes with reversible propagation reactions was discussed with particular consideration of the Lowry and Wittmer conceptions. Equations describing copolymer composition in systems with the participation of a charge transfer complex were also presented. The review was concluded with an attempt to compare various models of copolymerization by the adoption of a defined discrimination criterion. The importance of the choice of a correct model for a complete description of various systems was emphasized.
