Polimery 1988, No 4, 133

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1988.133

Summary

The specific features of the methods used for the determination of the rheological properties on non-Newtonian materials have been discussed. The principles of the classificatIon of these materials have been presented, the measurement and interpretation difficulties pointed out and committed errors and metods of their avoiding characterized. Particular attention has been paid to the studiem on high-molecular-weight polymer solutions, emulsions and paste paints. They belong to the class of plastic and rheologically unstable — including thixotropic — fluids. The necessity of rheological research — both for the cognitive and practical reasons — Has been demonstrated and consequences of their negligence discussed. The main fields of studiem concerned with the effect of structural changes in metastable materials on their rheological properties have been presented.
