Methods of synthesis of 3-chloropropyltri(chloro, alkoxyjsilanes were presented. The main step of this synthesis is addition of trichlorosilane to allyl chloride followed by alcoholysis of 3-chloropropyltrichlorosilane obtained. The effect of catalyst system on the course of the addition reaction was characterized in detail. The manufacturing process of 3-chloropropyltrialkoxysilanes was developed at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Faculty of Chemistry, and they will be produced in a pilot plant erected for this technology by the Unisil Co. at Tarnów, Poland. These silanes find many applications in several branches of industry. Above all they are the initial raw material in the synthesis of a whole family of silanes with a structure of YCH2CH2CH2Si , the Y functional groups being based mainly on O, N, or S atoms.
