The methods of synthesis, properties and applications (maliny as the adhesion promoters) of vinyltrisubstituted silanes have been presented. In particular, the synthesis of vinyltrichlorosilane by the catalytic hydrosilylation of acetylene has been described. The properties of vinylsilanes were characterized as well as possibilities of utilization of these compounds in the chemistry and processing of polymers [e.g. modification of glass fibres, formation of moisture-crosslinked polyethylene cable sheathing and hot-water pipes, in the manufacture of polyolefin–poly(vinyl alcohol) composites], as adhesion promoters in the filler–polymer and metal–polymer systems, in the preparation of siloxane polymers, as well as in organic synthesis. The technology of vinyltrichlorosilanes manufacturing developed at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań was successfuly implemented in industry by the UNISIL Co. Ltd. in Tarnów in the scale of 10 tpa.
