Summary
Syntheses and coupling-agent applications of alkyltrichloro- and alkyltriethoxy silanes are reviewed with particular reference to catalyzed hydrosilylation of alkenes with chloro- and alkoxysilanes. The process developer by the team of the A. Mickiewicz University, Poznań, is being commercialized at the UNISIL Innovation Applications Co., Ltd., Tarnow, Poland. The role of alkylsilanes in adhesion and the use of C2-C20 alkylsilanes as adhesion promoters and coupling agents in filler-polymer and metal-polymer systems are described. Possible application areas are indicated, including polymer modifiers, Ziegler-Natta catalyst modifiers, HPLC kolumn packing modifiers, and hydrophobizers for the building industry. Keywords: silanes, coupling agents, adhesion promoters, alkylsilanes, application areas
