Summary

A new method of polymer supramolecular structure investigation, on the basis of evaIuation of dissolved solvatochromic dye permeation, is presented. Diffusion profiles (Figs 3-5) of merocyanine-like dye [formula (1)], dissolved in 1,2-dichlorobenzene, in poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) have been analysed. Digital microscopic images of samples indicate that the dye migration process is a complex one. Diffusion coefficients, determined on the base of II Fick's law, prove that there are at least two parallel paths of dye penetration via two types of penetration channels differing in polarity - wider and narrower. Diffusion coefficients characterising these two types of channels have been compiled (Table 1).
