Some aspects of thermal degradation of poly(vinyl chloride). Part II. The mechanizm of degradation
The postulated mechanisms of thermal degradation of poly(vinyl chloride) through polyene propagation, i.e. radical, ionic and molecular mechanisms, and several experimental observations supporting these mechanisms were presented. The catalytic influence of the liberated HCl and methods of its detection were shown. Some kinetic models of the dehydrochlorination process were also presented. The relation between the conversion degree and the length of the formed polyene sequences was discussed. The results of analysis of volatile degradation products (particularly formation of aromatic compounds such as benzene) were presented.
