Some technological problems encountered in the designing of plastics recycling machines and devices

The ever-increasing demands for machines and devices to recycle post-consumer plastics wastes offer problems of how to select correctly the size and type of the machine in view of the expected efficiency of the utilization process. Initial conditions have to be precisely established, including the amount and volume of wastes, the qualitative and quantitative composition, the contaminants present, and the final conditions of end use. Such data will decide whether or not to continue with the design and how to evaluate the profitability of the whole recycling process. Recycling problems, in Poland and abroad, are discussed, including the scale of collection of post-consumer plastics and the equipment available for recycling purposes. Selected machines and devices for some recycling operations are presented. They should be of interest for domestic investors.
