Spontaneous current emission in solution-grown pure and doped poly(butylenes terephthalate) (PBT) films

Summary

Measurements of spontaneous current emission (SCE) in pure and iodine dopedoly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) samples were made by using varying electrode materials, heating rates, film thicknesses and concentrations of dopant iodine. Spontaneous currents were observed when a metal—polymer—metal structure was heated over a temperature range of 304— 450 К in a vacuum of 10-3torr. The SCE thermograms from the Al—PBT—Al system initially started on the negative side and then changed sign from negative to positive. These transitions are explicable in terms of: (a) the field created at the surfacesand (b) the field produced in the bulk of the material. In the In—PBT—In,Ag—PBT—Ag, Al—PBT—In and Al—PBT—Ag systems no such transitions were found to occur.
