Results of investigations on the effect of origin and time of service (up to 4 years) on molecular weight, dynamic viscosity and melt flow index of PE-LD film were presented. The shape-and-dimension related properties (bulk density, angle of slide, granulometry, flowability) were characterized. The effect of natural weathering (up to 4 years) on the mechanical properties (tensile strength and relative elongation at break) of the primary PE-LD, pure secondary granulate (technological scrap) and after-use secondary granulate (from film used for 2 or 4 years) was also determined. The results of determinations of the engineering and strength properties revealed changes due to destruction and crosslinking during processing and utilization of PE-LD. The presence of these processes was confirmed by IR spectroscopy.
