Vinyltris(β-methoxyethoxy)silane and γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane have been used for treatment of glass beads surface. Next, graft polymerization of styrene onto modified glass surface has been carried out, either in bulk or in solution. The effect of the type of silane and of the method of coating from aqueous or benzene solution as well as of the polymerization conditions on efficiency of polystyrene grafting has been determined. Grafting of polystyrene takes place only on silanized surface of beads, whereas in the case of non-silanized beads only ungrafted polystyrene is formed.
