Studies on properties of diluted solutions of defined multiblock poly(styrene-b-dimethylsiloxane)copolymers

Summary

Series of poly(styrene-b-dimethylsiloxane)copolymers of various compositions were obtained and then fractionated. The molecular weights, compositions, type and amount of blocks in fractions have been determined. The osmometry, light scattering and viscometry of diluted solutions of copolymer fractions in toluene, dioxane, tetrahydrofurane, chloroform and methylene chloride at 298K (25°C) have been applied. Thus the following parameters have been obtained: the second virial coefficient (A2), К and α constants of the Mark—Houwink equations, Huggins' constants кн, coefficients of short and long-distance interactions (A and B, respectively), unperturbed dimensions of macromolecules ( o >/M), viscometric macromolecule coil expansion coefficients Ln interaction parameters between different chain-segments βAB and χAB, and copolymer—solvent interaction parameters χ. The dependence of these parameters on the type of solvent, as well as on the molecular weight and composition of copolymers, has been discussed.
