Studies on the compatibility with polymers of waste nitrocellulose powders (NP) with polymers

Summary

The compatibility of waste NP with selected polymers, copolymers and oligomers, viz., poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC), chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-C1), vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer (VC/VAC), polyvinylbutyral (PVB) and an epoxide oligomer from bisphenol A (DE 600), was evaluated by the viscometric (Δη), calorimetric (ΔT) and microscopic methods. Additionally, the coatings obtained from solutions of the mixtures examined were studied to determine adhesion to glass and steel. Solutions of those mixtures were stable for 6 months. NP was found to be compatible with the polymers examined and utilizable in the production of nitrocellulose lacquers and paints.
