Summary

The suitability of acrylic—epoxide binders for the preparation of decorative and protective coatings designed for the external side of metal sheet containers has been determined. A c rylic copolymers containing both amide group and its N-hydroxymethyl and N-butoxymethyl derivatives have been investigated and the effect of additionally intro-duced carboxyl and hydroxyl groups has also been ascertained. The above mentioned acrylic copolymers have been modified with low molecular-weight Epidian 5 epoxide resin. It has been found that the quality of lacquer coatings depends on the kind of functional groups in acrylic copolymer. An advantageous effect has the use of copolymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl and N-butoxymethylamide groups.
