Studies on the effect of processing of unplasticized PVC on the polymer structure
PVC structure changes have been studied in the extrusion processing of selected unplasticized PVC in terms of the modified methylene test and high-precision density and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. Samples were extruded over specific temperature and extrusion speed ranges. Structural changes were inferred from the degree of gelation (G) as evaluated from the DSC endotherms recorded on fusing the primary and the resolidified crystallites. The extrusion operating parameters must be optimized to obtain a specific G-value for the molten and cooled extrudate.
