Studies on the improvement of antistatic properties of polyester film for photochemical applications

Summary

The antistatic properties of home-made poly(ethylene terephthalate) film for photochemical applications, with the adhesive layer containing inorganic salts or non-ionic, anionic and cationic antistatic agents, have been studied. The addition of inorganic salts, e.g. sodium nitrate, only slightly improves the antistatic properties. Non-ionic or anionic antistatic agents, added to the adhesive layer, are effective. However, used in high concentration levels, they decrease the adherence of gelatine layer. Good antistatic properties are achieved in the two-stage film coating, at first by the adhesive layer, and then by dilute solution of cationic antistatic agent.
