Studies on the interlaminar adhesion of lacquer coatingson wood

On the basis of determinations of surface wettability, surface tension of liquid lacquers and free surface energy of substrate and of lacquer coatings. It has been stated that the adhesion of nitrocellulose and unsaturated-polyester pa­raffin lacquer coatings to wood and to chemohardenlng surface (carbamide-phthallc type) coatings is very similar. It has also been found that the phase transition of liquid nitrocellulose lacquers, chemohardening lacquers and poly­ester lacquers into lacquer coatings causes an increase in free surface energy of these materials and that the interlaminar adhesion In the system wood — lacquers studied Is due mainly to dispersion forces
