Studies on the possibility of utilizing the metod of pyrolytic capillary gas-liquid chromatography

in the identification of ester - ether elastomer

Summary

The method of the pyrolytic capillary gas-liquid chromatography has been used in the identification of Polish - made ester-ether elastomers of the Elitel series, comprising alternate blocks of poly(butylene terephthalate) and poly- oxytetramethylene. The pyrolysis of Elitel 4420, Elitel 4440, and Elitel 4450, containing different amounts of these blocks, has been carried out at a temperature of 1023 K (750° C). A comparison of the character of pyrograms of copolyether- -esters comprising blocks of different chemical structure with pyrograms of corresponding model homopolymers makes it possible to discriminate between the structure of a terephthalic segment (butylene or ethylene terephthalate) and of an oxyalkylene segment (oxytetramethylene or oxyethylene) and to assess the approximate fraction of these segments in the block copolymers under investigation
