A wide range of applications of variable gears in plastics processing, in particular in the drive systems of extruders and injection moulding machines, has brought about the necessity of solving the problems connected with their eff icien cy and nonuniformity of running. The results of kinematic and dynamic analyzes of the variable pulse gears basing on the known mathematical relationships diverge with those from studies on these gears under real conditions of plastics processing. The aim of this work has been the determination of load characteristics of the variable pulse gears under conditions comparable w ith those of plastics processing. The BPI-8001/06 gear has been studied. These studies resulted in the description of the efficiency and nonuniformity of running of these gears in the case of randomly*changing conditions of load and revealed the variability of characteristics in the function of time. They also indicated the possibility of im prov ing 'the load characteristics by changes, in gear design. These changes in the pulse mechanism improved the gear efficiency by 8—26% with a simultaneous reduction of the degree of running nonuniformity by 1.50—<5.26%.
