Studies on the synthesis and properties of styrene-free unsalurated polyester resins with allylic ether groups

Summary

The results of studies on the synthesis of monoallyl ethers of trihydric alcohols: glycerol and 1,2 ,6 -hexanetriol and on using them in the synthesis of styrene-free unsaturatcd polyester resins were presented. The effect of the content of allyl ether of glycerol and content of fumaric acid in a polyester resin on the rate of photocrosslinking and hardness of lacquer coatings was determined. It was found that the presence of allylether side groups incorporated into polyester molecule (independent on the length of distancing linking unit) reduces the oxygen inhibition. Lacquer coatings prepared from such resin exhibit high hardness. Inhibitor, present in amounts laiger than in the conventional styrenie polyester resins, does not affect adversely the effectiveness of photochemical crosslinking.
