Studies on the transport properties and preliminary applications of membranes from modified poly(vinyl alcohol)
It has been demonstrated that the stream of salts (NaClO4, NaCl, Na2S203, NaSCN, NaNO3, Na2SO4) penetrating through membranes from poly(vinyl alcohol) modified with acids (oxalic, maleic, fumaric, orthophthalic acid) and then annealed decreases with the increase in content of modifying acid and in the temperature of annealing. The streams of the individual salts penetrating through membrane in the equilibrium state depend on the type of anion and are in accord with the liotropic series of anions after Hofmeister. It has been established on the examples of salts of gold and of silver iodide that membranes from modified poly(vinyl alcohol) can be used for purification of colloidal systems to improve their stability.
