Summary

Styrene-acrylic acid styrene-methacrylic acid copolymers have been prepared by copolymerization in bulk and in emulsion. By neutralizing these copolymers with various hydroxides the corresponding ionomers have been obtained. It has been found that the chemical resistance, melt flow in­dex and activation energy of viscous flow depend on the type and amount of acid in the initial copolymer and on the degree of neutralization. It has also been found that the distribution of carboxylic groups along the chain of the initial copolymer affects the chemical resistance and melt viscosity of the ionomers under study.
