Summary

Thermal and thermooxidative degradation of styrene — acrylic acid copolymers and of derived of them sodium ionomers vs. concentration of acrylic acids and its neutralization degree was investigated. It was found that both thermal and thermooxidative resistance increases with an increasing content of acrylic acid. Complete replacement of protons carboxylic groups with sodium ions yields further increase of thermooxidative resistance. At the same content of sodium ions, the presence of free carboxylic groups aditionally enhances the resistance.
