Sulfur compounds as modifiers in poly(1,4-phenylene sulfide) coatings

Polimery 2000, No 1, 46

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.2000.046

Two sulfur compounds, viz., 4,4'-thiobis(benzene disulfochloride) and 4,4'-dimercaptodiphenyl sulfide, were added as respectively chain extender and crosslinker type modifiers to poly(1,4-phenylene sulfide) dispersed in ethylene glycol. The dispersion was applied on steel surface. Thickness, adhesion to substrates that were or were not sand-blasted, and elasticity of the resulting poly(1,4-phenylene sulfide) coatings were examined in relation to modifier type and amount and to the content of titanium white (Tables 1, 3).
