Synchrotron studies of the crystalline structure of low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene
Kinetics of melting and crystallization processes in low-density polyethylene(PE-LD) and in linear low-density polyethylene (PE-LLD) has been investigated by using high-intensity X-ray radiation from a synchrotron. X-ray images in the function of temperature Turing melting and crystallization have been obtained and chan ges with temperature of elementary cell dimension determined. Considerable chan ges in the dimensions of elementary cell in the direction of crystal axis a have been observed. It Has also been found that the crystallization temperature of PE-LLD is higher than that of PE-LD what can be ascribed to the disturbing interactions of short transverse chains in PE-LD inhibiting the formation of crystalline regions.
