Summary

The 44-year long history of the R&D in the principal assortments of silicones that have been successively commercialized at the ICRI Silicone Pilot Plant and at the Chemical Works „Organika-Sarzyna”, Nowa Sarzyna, was described, including fluids, emulsions, compounds, resins, varnishes, release agents, water repellents for textiles and masonry, adhesives, antifoams room temperature vulcanizing rubbers, etc. It has been asserted that the present broad extent of silicone applications achieved in this country would be impossible if it were based only on the imports of these materials. The factor of major importance has been the support from indigenous specialists, the domestic production of these materials, the information and marketing activities, and the readily accessible samples for developing new applications in cooperation with users.
