The effect of 8-hydroxyquinoline complexes on the triboelectric properties of polyester resins

Summary

The triboelectric properties of powdered polyester compositions containing complex compounds of 8-hydroxyquinoline with transition metals (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) were investigated. These studies aimed at determining the applicability of the resin as the main component of the developing powder (toner) in xerography. The effect was determined of the metal used on the value and the sign of the electrostatic charge of the synthesized complexes and of the powdered composition comprising thermoplastic polyethylene terephthalate) and the organometallic compounds. The complex compounds were found to exert an advantageous effect of the uniformity of distribution and stabilization of the triboelectric charge in the polymer composition.
