The effect of an additional step of stretching jn superheated steam on the structure
and mechanical properties of polyacrylonitrile precursor fibres
The effect of the conditions of a two-step stretching process in superheated steam on the structure and mechanical properties of polyacrylonitrile precursor fibres was investigated. The two-step stretching gave better mechanical properties of fibres than one-step stretching. The optimum conditions of the process of two-step stretching in steam were established from the point of fibre properties. It is advantageous a gradual plasticization of fibres and the use of an appropriate distribution of stretchers. The medium of superheated steam is adequate for carrying out the process of thermal stabilization. Thus, PAN fibres with good mechanical properties are obtained and their internal stresses are relaxed.
