The effect of construction modifications of the extruder barrel Groove zone on the autothermal extrusion process

The barrel groove inclination angle and the number of grooves can be changed continuously in a prototype single-screw extruder during the extrusion process. The temperature of the extrudate was studied in relation to barrel groove inclination angle and screw speed. The temperature in the heating zone of the plasticating system, polymer mass flow rate and volume flow rate, extrusion velocity, the total energy consumed per unit mass and the extruder efficiency are presented graphically. MFI and the corrected Barus effect (extrudate swelling) are presented for the resulting extrudates.
