The effect of fillers on the properties of copoly(ether-ester)s

Summary

Modification of domestic (Chemical Works „Elana”, Toruń, Poland) Elitel type block copoly(ether-ester)s (KPEE) with acicular (fibrous), laminar or spherical particle fillers gave composites of enhanced mechanical properties, especially improved stiffness. The Elitels 4450, 4440 and 4420 of varying proportions of flexible and rigid segments, were studied in mechanical propertiesas a function of filler type and content. Mechanical strength was found toincrease only at the expense of controlled reduction of flexibility. Spherical particle fillers (glass microspheres, quartz flour, whiting) resulted in effective filling (with service properties improved but slightly), where as fibrousfillers (glass and cotton fibers) resulted in effective strengthening; laminarfillers (mica, graphite) gave an intermediate effect. Possible expansion of applications of filled KPEE has been discussed.
