The results of studies on the effect of n-butyllithium and 1,4-butylenedilithium on the process of transition of the urethane prepolymer with free isocyanate groups into solid cross-linked urethane elastomers have been presented. The IR-spectroscopic determinations have shown that this process proceeds by the polymerization and cyclopolymerization of free isocyanate groups and with the formation of cross-linking allophanate groups. The cross-linking density has been measured by the method of equilibrium swelling. These measurements have shown that the cross-linking density of the obtained elastomers increases with the increase in the concentration of the organolithium compounds. An interpretation of the observed realtionships has been presented.
